About Beach Day API

Building the coastal data layer for developers

What is Beach Day API?

Beach Day API is a developer-first REST API that answers one simple question: is it a good day to go to the beach?

We aggregate water quality grades, ocean conditions, weather data, and beach advisories into a single, easy-to-query endpoint. Instead of scraping government sites or juggling multiple data sources, developers get clean JSON with everything they need - water temperature, wave heights, UV index, bacterial contamination grades, and a proprietary Beach Day Score from 0 to 100.

The API covers 36,000+ beaches across 110 countries — the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, France, Croatia, Greece, Malta, Cyprus, Turkey, Portugal, Japan, Philippines, South Korea, South Africa, Mexico, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Bahamas, Panama, India, Indonesia, French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Fiji, New Zealand, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands, American Samoa, Marshall Islands, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Wallis and Futuna, Tokelau, Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay, Ecuador, Chile, Peru, Barbados, Maldives, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland, Iceland, Albania, Montenegro, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and 36 African countries including Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles, Cape Verde, Senegal, Ghana, Mozambique, Namibia, Angola, and more — with data refreshed regularly from trusted public sources. Whether you're building a travel app, a local news widget, or a coastal safety tool, Beach Day API gives you the data layer to do it right.

🌊 Our Data Sources

Beach condition data is sourced from public government programs including EPA BEACH Act monitoring (US),
NOAA buoy and weather station networks, state-level monitoring agencies (Australia),
WESSA Blue Flag Programme (South Africa), NÁYADE system (Spain), municipal beach monitoring agencies,
and Open-Meteo weather/ocean models (Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Italy, France, Croatia, Greece).
Beach location data for Italy, France, Croatia, Greece, French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Fiji, New Zealand, Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands, American Samoa, Wallis and Futuna, Tokelau, and all 36 African countries is sourced from OpenStreetMap. Data is provided as-is from these authoritative sources and is subject to their reporting schedules and coverage areas.

Our Mission

"Coastal safety data belongs to everyone. We make it accessible, developer-friendly, and reliable - so builders can focus on creating great experiences, not wrangling raw government datasets."

We believe public data should be truly public in practice - not just technically available via hard-to-parse government portals. Our credit-based model keeps costs low and transparent, meaning solo developers, startups, and established apps can all access the same quality data at a price that makes sense for their usage.

Founded 2001 - Supporting Independent Voices

Founded in 2001, VersusMedia has spent over two decades supporting independent voices through film and music streaming. Beach Day API extends this mission by making coastal safety and condition data accessible to developers.

VersusMedia was founded by Ryan Vinson with a belief that independent creators and developers deserve the same quality tools and data access as large enterprises. That philosophy drives everything we build - from streaming platforms to developer APIs.
