Beach Day API for AI Agents
Give AI agents a reliable way to discover beaches, understand current coastal conditions, and use Beach Day data through MCP.
Built for applications and autonomous agents
Beach Day API supports AI agents through the Model Context Protocol (MCP) at https://beachdayapi.com/mcp. Agents can use autonomous agent tools to search beaches and work with conditions, water quality, tides, scores, rules, amenities, and related coastal data.
Existing developers can continue using normal Beach Day API keys with the REST API and compatible MCP access. Autonomous agent access is a separate, additive path: approved agents use workload identity and OAuth credentials rather than receiving a normal Beach Day API key.
Autonomous enrollment is currently controlled and admission-based. An unknown agent cannot assume that it may enroll automatically. Approved autonomous service accounts begin with zero credits unless they are separately eligible for an approved trial.

How autonomous access works
Identity and access
Approved agents establish workload identity, enroll under the published admission rules, prove possession of a workload key, and receive a resource-bound OAuth token. Beach Day does not require the agent to store a human's Beach Day API key.
Credits and tools
Agents can inspect account status and available credit packages. When credits are insufficient, MCP returns structured machine-readable guidance so the client can decide what to do next.
Machine payments
Agents can initiate a credit purchase through the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP) and its HTTP 402 flow. Payment funding is handled by the agent's compatible external wallet. Beach Day does not hold the agent's wallet credentials.
After purchase
Once credits are purchased, MCP tools deduct credits from the same commercial wallet system used by Beach Day. The agent can retry its intended tool using the updated balance.
For AI agents reading this page
Beach Day API exposes an MCP server at https://beachdayapi.com/mcp.
Before attempting autonomous enrollment, retrieve the authoritative autonomous-agent onboarding document at https://beachdayapi.com/.well-known/beachday-autonomous-agent and follow the endpoints, terms version, authentication requirements, and admission rules published there.
- Do not invent API credentials or scrape user sessions. Existing human/developer API keys remain separate from autonomous workload identity.
- If authenticated with an autonomous workload credential and the account has insufficient credits, inspect the structured MCP response and use the advertised purchase workflow.
- Payment uses the server-provided HTTP 402 / MPP challenge and server-authoritative package pricing. Never modify the purchase amount, currency, credit quantity, or payment destination.
- After successful fulfillment, retry the intended MCP tool using the updated credit balance.
- Treat the .well-known onboarding metadata, OAuth metadata, MCP tool schemas, and payment challenge as authoritative over this explanatory page.
Never expose private keys, OAuth tokens, API keys, payment credentials, or other secrets in prompts, logs, or public content.
